Can anyone define happiness without describing contentment and without defining it as owning something?

Happiness is something you can't pour on others without having a few drops on yourself.

Let's hear from more of you. How will you ever find happiness if you do not know what to look for.

Happiness is something you are willing to sacrifice for. And it also aligns with your values and goals.

Sorry, but you have not provided a definition of happiness.

My bad, that would be from my perspective on 'defining happiness'!

Hmm let me try again: Happiness is something that can only be radiated from the bottom of your heart and people can genuinely feel from you, even without you smiling or laughing.

Still no?

Keeping trying. You are describing happiness. It is like asking for a definition of water and one replies by saying water is something that is wet. A definition may be that it is the combination of two gases that assume a new properties. This is the problem with defining happiness. Everyone seeks it and agrees it is an ideal state but few can define it. We will not find it unless we clearly understand what we are looking for.

Interesting topic ... I wouldn't try to define it-it is different for everyone. I could try to give an example what I feel as happiness. Pure happiness is when a child (either your own or somebody else's ) hugs you; when you finish a good book; when your pet gives birth to her own babies; when it's enough to just sit beside your loved one and be happy without saying a word or doing a thing. Things like that. We are all happy more or less.... What are your examples, Mentor777 ? I'm anxious to know!

Well, here are some sources of happiness but it is still not a definition.

1. Good Health…anyone who does not believe this has never been
seriously ill.
2. Good employment…who can be happy that is so poorly employed and so
poorly paid that he can not provision himself and his family?
3. Children who become responsible adults…every parent's greatest prayer.
4. Joy in the face of a loved one…who is it that does not live for joy of
those we love?
5. Peace of mind…everyone’s most fervent wish.

happiness is a moment when we feel everything is complete

Re: DEFINE HAPPINESS... 4 years, 2 months ago #22531

For me, Happiness is a choice.

When you're poor, it doesn't mean that you have no right to be happy just because rich people seems to look happy all the time. Most rich people have great anxiety of losing money. Most poor people laugh at small things in life.

You can find happiness in single things around you if you just know how to appreciate them.

For example, sun is making me happy, family is making me happy, food is making me happy, sleep is making me happy, being alive is making me happy and so on..

Happiness depends on someone's perceptions in life.

Happiness is the synergistic feeling I get when we chat about a common interest like feng shui.

Happiness is a simple feeling!

Easily triggered in every moment when you know: "Well.. life at this moment (now) is all right.."

What makes you happy..??

Everything that you know (at this moment) is all right..!!

So happiness enemy is troublesome..!!

That is what, how and when of happiness..!!

I think happiness comes in many ways.

And one way in which I do feel happy is when you make the effort to do or buy someone something you know they like or wish to have and then seeing their faces light up and it makes you feel all warm and sunshine-y ; sometimes giving is happiness
