WEDDING DATE PICKED – BUT ALMANAC SAYS NOT AUSPICIOUS

Q Hi, I’m concerned about the date my daughter is getting married. The chart says it is not an auspicious day. What can I do to make it auspicious?

A If the date has already been selected and all arrangements have been made and you cannot change the date, then I suggest you use the “Art of Placement”, i.e. all the auspicious symbols that indicate a happy marriage.

The best symbols to use are the Double Happiness Symbol (make it very big), the Dragon and Phoenix symbol (which indicates celestial happiness) and plenty of the colour Red, because red is Yang energy; red is always a wonderful, auspicious colour.

If you have these three things as part of the wedding decorations and celebrations, and your daughter wears the Qua (the Chinese auspicious bridal dress) and her husband wears the bridal outfit, then all this will attract a lot of auspicious energies to the marriage.

It is not always possible to choose the most auspicious dates for weddings, so don’t worry too much about this.

CAN WE DISPLAY A PICTURE ON A WALL WITH A BATHROOM ON OTHER SIDE?

Q My living room wall shares the bathroom wall. Is it bad feng shui to put a picture on a wall with a bathroom on the other side?

A Depends on what the picture is of. If the wall is being shared by a bathroom on the other side, you must NOT hang sacred images like Thangkas there. You should also not hang pictures of people (e.g. your family portrait). But if you hang a picture of scenery, then it will be fine.

OFFERING INCENSE AND CANDLE. WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

Q What is the difference between lighting a candle and burning incense to offer to Buddha? What must we say when we light a candle? What must we say if we burn incense?

A There are mantras that enhance the offering of incense, and there are mantras that enhance the offering of lights (you can get these from CHANT A MANTRA).

The most important difference between lights and incense is that they each have a different benefit.

When you offer candles and lights, it makes you more intelligent and it generates greater wisdom; light indicates wisdom energy, which dispels ignorance.

Incense on the other hand, is to clear the space. When you offer incense, you’re offering incense to the local spirits of your home, which appeases them; and this makes your house very harmonious, very smooth, with everything going very well for you.

Each different offering brings a different benefit. So remember, incense is to appease the surrounding spirits. Light offerings are to increase your wisdom. Flower offerings are to increase your beauty. Food and water offerings increase your wealth and well-being. All offerings have specific meanings.

FRAMING PICTURE OF LOVED ONE THAT HAS PASSED ON

Q I have recently lost my husband and would like to know the best wall in the living room to hang his picture in order for him to protect the family. Also, what is the best material for the frame to be made of?

A The best place to hang your late husband’s picture is in the Northwest. The NW represents the Patriarch. What you want is your husband’s loving energy, the spirit he exudes for you, and to keep his beautiful memories alive, so the NW wall is the best wall.

The frame can be made out of metal or wood, but I would suggest to frame his picture in metal, as it is more enduring.

DISPLAYING ANIMAL TROPHY HEADS

Q My friend’s husband is a hunter and likes to display the heads of deer on the walls throughout their house. Is this considered a bad omen, or is it auspicious in any way?

A It is definitely not auspicious. What happens when you display anything that has two eyes, one nose and a mouth is that you are attracting spirits to make their home inside that display. Even with a painting this can happen; that is why we put Om Ah Hum at the back of all figurines, statues and painting. This prevents bad spirits from residing within. Even stuffed dolls can attract bad spirits.

On animal head trophies, I would advise against putting these up, as you are attracting the spirits of animals, most of whom are wild animals and can be harmful.
