hi , though iam not a feng shui expert but still let me help you by replying to your quiry.yes you can activate the eight mansion direction even when it is not your aspicious direction.but do not over do with enhancer without having knowledge of annual flying star affliction for example last year southwest was afflicted by five yellow ,therefore is was said that southwest was not to be activated by installing fire feature lest it would inrease earth element of five yellow which may cause problem. hope this will clear your doubt to certain extent.
