Your "karmic creditors"can cause havoc in your life, especially if your luck phases are unfavourable. If the luck pillars are more favourable, your "qi" is stronger, and they are less able to afflict you.
These, which I used to ridicule and dismiss straight away as poppycock, caused me so much problems when I was a student in school and junior college.I just could not concentrate at all.I mean,I wasn't the lazy type that kept putting off revisions.
Now,I know why.Bad energies of karma of past lives(usually the previous one)making their "presence" known to you("Hi,remember me?"),and interfering with all your endeavours in this life.Buddhists term it "yuan qin zhai zhu"-----------karmic creditors.
How then,to stop these subtle"things"from throwing their spanners into our works?
Pay back what you owe them.
How?
Do massive amounts of philanthropic works(good works)such as donating to genuine charities,do volunteer work at charities, donate your possessions(I always do this,to the Salvation Army),become a regular blood donor(if you are healthy enough),take less meat(if you can't give it up totally). Then, mentally transfer the merits of these deeds to your karmic creditors,at your place of worship,or towards the sky. Some people say they have performed many good deeds but still meet with many troubles in life. The reason could be he/she did not transfer("hui xiang" in Chinese)the accumulated merits to the creditors.
Some may ask why is it that those gods and deities and bodhisattvas and angels can't help them transfer the merits?
It's like:can anyone touch your money in your bank(after you have saved it up) without your approval? No.You yourself must give permission to these deities to help transfer,or you dedicate the merits to them(your creditors)yourself.
Thus, after doing some good works,or chanting, mentally transfer the good energies to them,if you believe these "things"are wreaking havoc in your life, and you need to take a breather.
For those on the Path(serious Buddhist spiritual aspirants on the Path to Enlightenment),such karmic disturbances can be even more serious.Your life can really be turned upside down. Why is this so?
Because your creditors fear that you might run away to some Pure Lands and not repay what you owe them.In such cases, just mentally communicate to them that you are not running away from your debt obligations.
Like a borrower leaving home to avoid being hounded by his/her creditors.
Of course,we shouldn't be doing good deeds just for the sake of repaying our debts.Rather,we should do it out of Compassion and Love for fellow sentient beings.

A Buddhist from Taiwan related in a Chinese Buddhism forum(I can't post the link here because of the rules of this forum)how he was tormented by his karmic creditors even when he was devoted to his faith.Once, during a Buddhist ceremony, these creditors from past lives made their "presence"known to him by causing a near heart attack to him.He was holding his chest in great pain, and could not continue with the ritual.
He later(after he turned well) wrote a long, detailed post in the same forum on how one can placate and appease these unseen forces of karma,so that they don't cause troubles in your day-to-day living,or interfere with your spiritual practices.Feng Feng's book(Investigating The Heavenly Eye,The Wisdom Eye and The Dharma Eye)contains one true case of manifestation of furious karmic creditors at the start of a Buddhist ceremony in Vancouver. This incident scared the wits out of those participating in the ceremony.
These forces can cause one to behave strangely in a religious setting.Sometimes they cause the person to pass out.
Oddly, these creditors could be your own parents, grandparents, wives, husbands, children and siblings from a past life or lives.....
