Welcome to our Spring issue! Because this Year of the Tiger has no Lap Chun, it is important to re-create our own Springtime energy during the year. Lillian Too is celebrating New Year on the day of the Lap Chun i.e. on February 4th instead of 14th Feb (1st day of the Lunar New Year). As a family, we are also going to make very certain that we do not open our Southwest facing door on the first day of Chinese New Year. Ideally, everyone should observe this taboo because the Death direction on New Year’s Day this year is facing Southwest and because the SW is also afflicted by the wu wang (a.k.a. five yellow) it becomes doubly dangerous. Our family home very prominently faces SW, so we have decided to go away for a holiday and then celebrate New Year only on the night of the first full moon of the year... Chap Goh Meh.

As we were putting this issue together, two wonderful ladies – Elizabeth and Loretta – approached Lillian to invite her to become a spokesperson for TRAFFIC and WWF. Traffic is the wildlife trade monitoring network and WWF the World Wildlife Fund. They brought to our attention that during this Year of the Tiger, trade in tiger parts have increased, cashing in on some people’s mistaken belief that consuming or wearing tiger parts brings good luck and instils the tiger’s courage, strength and magnificence on the person. When Lillian heard it, her instant reaction was that there is nothing MORE BAD FENG SHUI than wearing dead tiger parts!! And if these tigers are poached and killed to obtain these parts - if you contribute to the killing by creating demand by buying these products - then you instantly become an enemy of the Tiger. And in a Tiger Year or any year for that matter, wearing the yin energy of the TIGER brings all kinds of long term misfortune.

The two ladies, together with their dedicated team, are working selflessly to educate the public about the Tiger, bringing awareness of their potential complete extinction if something is not done quickly to stop the trade in tiger parts - and thence the killing of Tigers - which by the way is being done in the MOST cruel fashion! Extinction of Tigers could well happen in our lifetime if we do not bring awareness of this to the larger public. Inside we carry a feature on the Malayan Tiger, showing you numbers that are really scary! We hope you join us to support this cause, simply by refusing to consume tiger products and to refrain from wearing tiger parts, and also by talking about it and sharing what you learn here with your friends. Collectively we can and should make a difference.

For those of you thirsty for more feng shui knowledge, Lillian Too in her fine points column introduces another new aspect of feng shui astrology, focusing this time on the 28 Sky Animals of the Lunar Mansions that offer yet more detailed clues to how we can use astrological calculations to enhance our feng shui. The lunar constellations give extra nuances to horoscope forecasts, bringing insights on the kind of work that best bring out our potential; and what kind of pursuits we should pursue in life. The Sky Animals have really captivating names – there’s the Sky Horse, Sky Unicorn, Sky Fox... turns out I am a Sky Dog, what will you be? Wait for it, there is even a Sky Worm!

Our Hollywood pick this issue has to be Sandra Bullock. An Oscar for this actress is long overdue, and perhaps she can pick one up for The Blind Side, but she will be up against stiff competition, and like they say, a SAG in the bag don’t necessarily mean Oscar glory. Well, come March 7th we shall see. Read about the talented Miss Bullock inside. Peter Lung’s step-by-step feng shui this issue talks about how to choose between apartment units, Chris Yeo talks about open plan living and shares tried and tested architectural tips, while Surendran our Vaastu expert focuses on meditation techniques that create the energy fields around us.

Tickets for Lillian Too’s upcoming The Third Dimension in Feng Shui are now on sale at all World of Feng Shui boutiques, MPH bookstores and online at www.wofs.com and www.fsmegamall.com – book early to enjoy early bird rates. At this all day seminar to be held at the Suntec Convention Centre in Singapore, Lillian will be introducing the third vital aspect to feng shui practice, complementing the first two dimensions of space and time. There will also be workshops on powerful rituals that help pacify the invisible “landlords” of our spaces, all part of the Third Dimension... mystical stuff and all very captivating. Don’t miss out!

Happy reading and we wish you a wonderful season of Spring!
